A goal from Luton captain Sonny Bradley ensured Luton would travel to Yorkshire level with the Terriers.

Despite rumours from the Luton fans, star striker Elijah Adebayo did not return to action for the Hatters. Instead, Nathan Jones named an unchanged team from last week's final Championship game of the season against Reading.

The Hatters were perhaps lucky to not kick off their playoffs to a nightmare when the referee waved away a penalty appeal for Huddersfield after James Bree appeared to foul Toffolo.

Minutes later Luton fans were almost in for an early celebration James Bree burst up the other end of the pitch, but his powerful effort was saved by Huddersfield keeper Nicholls.

Despite an intense productive start from the home side, Luton found themselves behind after just twelve minutes. Sinani, the goal scorer for Huddersfield, raced past the Luton defence before finding the bottom corner at Ingram's near post. With Huddersfield one ahead, the early goal opened the tie for an interesting opening period.

The Hatters ensured their heads didn't drop, knowing there were 170 minutes left to find a leveller over the two legs. After trying to find a way through Huddersfield's relentless defensive barrier, Luton finally got their equaliser from a set-piece just after half an hour played. A great ball in from Kal Naismith found Luton skipper Sonny Bradley who placed his shot into the back of the net.

With the crowd back in full voice and volume, Cameron Jerome found himself through on goal shortly after Luton's reply. After delaying to take his shot so he could get closer to the target, Jerome was dragged down by Terriers defender Sarr, but despite screams from Luton players, staff and fans, Rob Jones waved away the appeals.

Jerome went hunting for a Luton second again, but his impressive curling effort went just wide of the post. For the third time in just fifteen minutes, Luton managed to open up the now vulnerable-looking Huddersfield defence as Henri Lansbury's shot looked certain to put the Hatters ahead, but it was blocked by Sarr, keeping the game level.

After a dominant first-half display, Luton ended the first period level with the Yorkshire visitors. The second half, however, was a contrast with the first as Luton didn't look at all as dangerous before the break, making just one threatening effort in the last forty-five minutes.

Tom Lockyer was brought onto the back three as Henri Lansbury made way after appearing to injure himself. Kal Naismith stepped up into midfield. Danny Hylton entered the field of play with ten minutes remaining and Luton appeared to switch to a traditional Nathan Jones diamond formation.

Despite the referee's adding four minutes of additional time, the game finished level ready for the second leg on Monday evening.
