Barton Rovers vs Waltham Abbey Southern League Division One Central

3 pm kick-off, Sharpenhoe Road.

Barton Rovers managed to grab a draw against Waltham Abbey in the last ten minutes of the game after conceding an early second-half goal to the Essex-based side.

Barton keeper Matthew Boylan grabbed the headlines in the first half after he pulled off a number of important saves to keep his team at level terms.

Waltham would’ve felt that they deserved to be ahead over the first period. Their attacking midfielder Domafryie came close three times over the half, but he was unable to find the back of the net.

Both sides made substitutions on the hour mark as Barton number nine Tony Burnett made way for Urijah Gordan-Douglas, and Waltham's player of the match so far, Domafriyie was replaced by Junior Appiah.

Shortly after the changes, the visitors took the lead as a long-range effort from Asamoah gave his side the lead. After picking up the ball on the edge of the box Asamoah curled it into the top corner past Boylan, who had no chance.

A break in play was needed in the seventieth minute after two Rovers players collided. The interruption gave the men in blue a chance to re-group. Barton was also forced into a change due to the incident; defender Maximillian Ryan was replaced by attacker Temilola Akinbusoye.

Waltham almost doubled their lead shortly after when the substitute Appiah went racing through, but the flag was up for offside before he could get his shot away.

Barton made their last substitution with ten minutes to go when Charlie Smith exited the field of play and Martel Powell came on in his place. At the same time, Abbey brought on Kladji Cani for Gyamfi in the hope to see the game out.

However, this wasn’t the case, because, with five minutes to go, the hosts finally found an equaliser. Jordan Kinoshi made an excellent run into the Waltham area, where the ball was toyed with until it eventually found the back of the net.

Goal scorer Temilola Akinbusoye immediately grabbed the ball from the back of the net to continue the restart in hope that Barton Rovers could find a winner.

Although both teams had chances after Abbey began again from the spot-kick, neither could capitalise and the game fairly ended in a draw.
