Luton encountered a set back in their play-off push on Saturday afternoon as they were defeated 2-1 by top six contenders Middlesbrough. The Hatters saw the Yorkshire club take their place in the play-off spots after a difficult challenge.

Middlesbrough took the lead in the 17th minute when Reece Burke gave away a penalty. Paddy McNair scored against Luton’s emergency goalkeeper signing Alex Palmer.

A handful of injuries for Luton saw Gabe Osho, Allan Campbell and Kal Naismith all leave the field of play. The changes made the game more of a challenge for the Hatters.

Middlesbrough made substitutions of their own, Duncan Watmore one of them, made the difference for Boro. He doubled Middlesbrough’s lead in the 87th minute after his shot was misjudged by Alex Palmer.

Luton got one goal back through Harry Cornick in the additional time, but it wasn’t enough to grab any points this week.
