Luton Town beat Preston North End in a dominant 4-0 win last night at Kenilworth Road. The win saw the Hatters move into fifth position, back into the play-offs.
Nathan Jones fielded a makeshift Luton defence due to the absence of Tom Lockyer and Kal Naismith. Coming into their places were Peter Kioso and Dan Potts. The regular full-backs managed to keep a clean sheet whilst Dan Potts captained the side despite having to play out of position.
The Hatters opened the scoring in just the ninth minute of play as Luke Berry scored his first goal of the game. The cross to Adebayo from Bree made its way to Berry, who slotted the ball away nonchalantly into the Lilywhites' net.
Luton had to make a first-half substitution when Reece Burke pulled up with a worrying injury after just twenty-five minutes. Fred Onyedinma came on in his place as James Bree dropped into the back three.
Only five minutes after the winger came onto the field of play, he found himself on the scoresheet for Luton. The ball was shuffled into the net after a cross from Bree caused a scuffle in the area. Although Peter Kioso seemed to claim and celebrate the goal as his own. It was announced shortly after that it was actually Onyedinma's goal.
Just before halftime, Luke Berry got his second goal of the game with a smart finish as he backheeled his shot past the confused Preston goalkeeper Daniel Iversen. The goal moved Berry's Championship tally up to seven for the season.
Luton came out for the second half looking to completely kill the game off as they searched for a fourth goal. They did so in the sixtieth minute when Amari'i Bell's cross bounced off Iverson's save onto Diaby's head. The defender, unfortunately, found himself on the scoresheet, but embarrassingly for the wrong team.
Preston should've scored a consolation goal for their travelling fans, but Josh Murphy's simple shot went well wide of James Shea's net. Sending the Lilywhite fans home with a very long drive and nothing to show for it. The game marked James Shea's one-hundredth appearance for Luton as he registered another clean sheet.
A very impressive bounce back for Luton after their defeat against QPR last week, gave the home fans lots to cheer about in loud voices as the team moved into the highest placed position they have been all season.
